ABOUT THE POSITION

The FAS Impact Fellowship is seeking a fellow for an 18-month term (with potential opportunity to extend) to join a new team within the Department of Education’s Institute for Education Sciences (IES). The Fellow will support IES in standing up a new program and team charged to support advanced research and development (R&D) in education. In this role, the fellow will help to envision, develop, and evaluate high-reward scalable solutions intended to significantly improve outcomes for learners across the lifespan.

 Current federal employees are not eligible for this position.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

The fellow will collaborate with IES leadership and staff on:

  • Implementing programs to support quick turnaround high-reward, scalable solutions. intended to significantly improve outcomes for students.  
  • Developing an initial strategy and vision for IES’ inaugural advanced development program.
  • Developing a strategic plan for how to deploy new forms of innovation, prototype development, and experimentation to drive education outcomes at scale.
  • Coordinating across interagency stakeholders on the vision, development, and execution of advanced R&D programs and vision.
  • Communicating and collaborating with Congress, research communities, nonprofit organizations, and other external stakeholders to inform the public about IES’ advanced research work and foster meaningful partnerships 


YOUR BACKGROUND AND ABILITIES

  • Recommended 8+ years of experience using novel research approaches and/or 
  • exploring applications of emerging technology for education
  • Experience conducting learning sciences research and/or using insights from the learning sciences to inform product development
  • Experience with rapid cycle evaluation, prototype development, and other expedient product development models.
  • Experience building and leading teams in education and/or research environments
  • Experience working with either other federal agencies (especially research agencies) or Congress a plus


EDUCATION & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Unfortunately, FAS is unable to consider current federal employees for the FAS Impact Fellowship.

A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in a STEM-related field or Education is preferred, though skills and experience in research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position may be considered as a replacement.

Candidates should have research or development experience, in formal and/or informal education settings. Successful candidates will have research and development expertise in education and learning consistent with IES’ SEER principles.

  

SALARY 

This fellowship will provide a salary for the entirety of the fellowship duration at an annual rate of $180,000 per year. The Impact Fellow will receive additional compensation $2,000 per month to account for health insurance and living expenses. Additional information about the Fellowship can be found in our FAQ.
