Community Manager

The Federation of American Scientists is hiring a full-time Community Manager to support external engagement of the FAS Talent Hub. The Community Manager is responsible for developing a strong sense of community among Fellowship participants at FAS through the systematic and strategic outreach to Fellows, alumni, federal agencies, nonprofits, and prospective talent pools. This role is externally facing and is focused on developing relationships and partnerships to create both a communal Fellowship experience and engaged policy community. Reporting to the Talent Program Manager, the Community Manager works extensively with other FAS staff to develop new Impact Fellowship opportunities and move them from ideation to a finalized Impact Fellow position descriptions.

Core Responsibilities

Working closely with the FAS leadership, Talent Hub, and Social Innovation staff, the Community Manager supports the strategic outreach and partnership development related to the Talent Hub Fellowship Program, including but not limited to:

  1. Leading and facilitating different FAS communities, including the Day One Community, Impact Fellows, Policy Entrepreneurship Fellows, and Endless Frontier Fellows; and

  2. Creating and executing curriculum for Impact Fellows, including professional learning sessions, policy development workshops, and community building activities, in coordination with other FAS staff;

  3. Engaging prospective talent for various fellowships and community initiatives through developing partnerships with like-minded organizations, with a particular emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;

  4. Drafting regular communications to the Impact Fellow community that features FAS updates, Talent Hub updates, and other subject-matter developments;

  5. Support the Social Innovation team in event planning for fellows and community members to generate idea sharing and comradery;

  6. Performing other duties as needed and assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

The FAS/Day One team is seeking an entrepreneurial, ambitious, and resourceful individual who is comfortable in a start-up environment, has the ability to live with and thrive in ambiguity, and has previous job experience in similar dynamic environments. 

 

Strong candidates would have some of the following experience and qualifications:

  • Previous work experience in the federal government, policy think-tanks or nonprofits, human resources, adult learning/professional learning, science or technology policy, or business operations;

  • Experience focusing diversity, equity, and inclusion in outreach strategies;

  • Experience in building out professional learning programs and curricula, especially professional development;

  • Experience building partnerships and collaborating across networks;

  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial culture;

  • Experience in communications, editing, project management strongly desired; and 

  • Interest in strategic communications, policy development, or another core aspect of FAS/Day One Project’s work.

 

Estimated salary range $65,000 - $85,000, commensurate with knowledge, skills and experience.
