Project Associate

At the Federation of American Scientists, we believe in embracing a growth oriented and entrepreneurial mindset to drive impact for our colleagues, our customers, and the world. We are seeking a full-time Project Associate to support the operations of the Talent Hub. 

The Project Associate will work alongside the Community Manager and report to the Talent Program Manager, and other Talent Hub staff, to help administer the full life cycle of the Talent Hub Fellowship Program across various domains such as project management, recruitment efforts, external client relationships (government agency partners and prospective talent), and overall fellowship experience. 

We are seeking a self-starting team player with strong organizational and problem-solving skills, excellent writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively. The right candidate will help shape the role according to their skills, and act as a key player toward achieving significant growth and long-term sustainability for The Federation of American Scientists. 

Core Responsibilities

Working closely with the FAS leadership and Talent Hub staff, the Associate supports all activities including but not limited to:

  1. Operations for the Talent Hub Fellowship Program, including designing and developing recruitment & outreach materials, external event planning, and tracking team deliverables;

  2. Supporting the new Community Manager with community management, communications, partnership outreach, and other responsibilities;

  3. Sourcing prospective talent through developing partnerships with like-minded organizations, with a particular emphasis on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;

  4. Help creating and executing curriculum for Impact Fellows, including professional learning sessions, policy development workshops, and community building activities, in coordination with other FAS staff;

  5. Overseeing the development of strategic communications specifically generating social media content, web content, and other related external communication materials in support of the Impact Fellowship cohorts; and

  6. Performing other duties as needed and assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

The FAS/Day One team is seeking an entrepreneurial, ambitious, and resourceful individual who is comfortable in a start-up environment, has the ability to thrive in ambiguity and has previous job or internship experience in similar dynamic environments.  

Strong candidates would have some of the following experience and qualifications:

  • Previous internship or work experience in the federal government, a think tank, science or technology research, or business operations;

  • Experience managing projects;

  • Experience building partnerships and collaborating across networks;

  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial culture; and

  • Previous experience in communications, editing, project management strongly desired.

Compensation ranges from $60,000 - $70,000 and is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience.
